A gate valve is type of valve that can be opened or closed to start or stop the flow of liquid through it. Often used in pump systems where the liquid needs to be either fully on or completely off, this makes them ideal as a way to reliably isolate a section of the system. One of the most common types of valve, gate valves are often used in high-flow systems where regulating the flow isn’t necessary.

They can be fitted in either direction, which can give greater flexibility to systems where fluid direction needs to be changed or where controlling the flow on both sides of the valve is beneficial. Brass gate valves are often used, but they can also be made from other metals or plastic.

Gatevalves are designed to have minimal flow resistance when fully open, keeping the flow consistent and reducing losses in pressure. When closed, they create a tight seal that is made to stand up to high pressures.
